Voter data protection

Your voter list stays yours.

Every voter record you import is encrypted at rest with AES-256. We can't decrypt your list in bulk — a canvasser's request unlocks one assigned record at a time, and we never sell or share what you bring.

How it works

  1. 1You import your own voter file — the data your campaign already has the right to use. Import help reads your column headers and a scrubbed sample, never voters' personal details.
  2. 2The records are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM. List screens never hand back bulk encrypted voter records — there is no screen, and no request, that returns your whole file in the clear.
  3. 3When a signed-in canvasser opens their next door, exactly one assigned record is decrypted for them — the household in front of them, not the street, not the list.

What your campaign gets

  • AES-256 encryption at rest on every voter record your campaign imports — the actual algorithm, named.
  • A system that can't decrypt your voter data in bulk. Decryption is limited to a single assigned record per authenticated canvasser request.
  • No voter personal information goes to AI services. Import assistance works from column headers and scrubbed samples only.
  • We never sell or share your voter data — and you can export your campaign data as CSV whenever you want. It's your list, and it leaves when you say so.

In a field program

A campaign that already holds a voter file it's permitted to use could import it once, and from that point the records sit encrypted. On Saturday morning, a volunteer who joined by QR code opens the app and sees the household they're standing in front of — one assigned record at a time as they work the route, rather than a downloadable copy of the neighborhood.

Limits — and what stays yours

  • Getting your voter data legally, and using it only the way your source permits, stays your campaign's responsibility. Activate protects the file you bring — it doesn't give you the right to use it.
  • Encryption protects your data inside Activate. The moment you export a CSV, that copy lives on your computer under your rules, and keeping it safe is your team's job.
  • We describe the mechanism, not a seal of approval. AES-256 at rest, no bulk decryption, and no voter data to AI services are things you can point at in the product; we don't hold or claim third-party security certifications.

Bring your list. Keep it yours.

Create a campaign, import a small test file, and see exactly what a canvasser sees — free core canvassing, no credit card.
