One QR code on your phone screen — or one link in the volunteer group chat — is all it takes. People who show up sign up, join your campaign, and are ready for a route the same day. No app store download, no names collected in advance, no per-seat fees.
How it works
- 1Open your campaign's invite screen and pick the role you're inviting — canvasser or manager. A QR code and a matching link for that role are already there; there's nothing to prepare first.
- 2Show the code on your phone, download it to print on a sign-up sheet, or paste the link into the group chat. The same code works for everyone you're inviting into that role.
- 3A volunteer scans or taps, creates their account, confirms the code emailed to them, and lands in your campaign with the role you chose — in their phone's browser, with no app to download.
What your campaign gets
- One reusable QR code and link per role: show it, print it, download it, or send it. You don't need anyone's name or email before they can join.
- You decide the role before you share — a canvasser invite brings people in as canvassers, a manager invite as managers. Individual email invites are still there for the people you already know.
- You're notified when someone joins, and they appear on your team list ready to be assigned a route. If you remove a member later, their assigned voters are released back for someone else.
- Invite as many volunteers as your campaign can recruit. Core canvassing is free with no per-seat fees, and no volunteer is ever asked for a credit card.
In a field program
A campaign manager holding a Saturday volunteer meeting could put one canvasser QR code on the projector, let everyone in the room scan it and sign up on their own phones, and see the new canvassers on the team list before the shift briefing is over.
Limits — and what stays yours
- Every volunteer creates their own Activate account and confirms an emailed code (or signs in with Google). There's no anonymous join, and canvassing in the field means carrying a phone with a browser.
- A shared code is open by design: anyone who has it can join in that role, so share a manager invite deliberately. Codes are also time-limited — each one stops working 30 days after it's created, and the invite screen issues a fresh one when that happens.
- Joining puts that person in your campaign with the role you set, visible to you on the team list. If a code gets into the wrong hands, a manager can replace it — the old link and QR code stop working immediately — and anyone who already joined is removed from the team list separately.
